About Me

Ismet Tuna Gürbüz

Electrical and Electronics Engineer
Doctoral Researcher at Aalto University

I am a 28 years old Finland-based electrical and electronics engineer. I completed my bachelor’s degree at Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey) in 2017, and my master’s degree at Aalto University (Espoo, Finland) in 2019. Since May 2019, I have been pursuing my doctoral studies at Aalto University in Computational Electromechanics Research Group under the supervision of Prof. Anouar Belahcen.

My research area focuses on the modeling of the magnetic properties and iron losses of the magnetic materials used in electrical machines, and incorportation of the material models to the finite-element machine simulation softwares. Thanks to my doctoral research, I have strong mathematical and coding skills with hands-on experience in MATLAB, Python, and Fortran. In “Research” section of the website, our recent research papers are described.

In addition to my research field, I am interested and skilled in Machine Learning and Quantitative Finance areas. I completed several courses at Aalto University as a part of extracurricular studies during my doctoral studies as Investment Science, Financial Engineering I, Financial Engineering II, Machine Learning with Python, and Deep Learning as well as online certificated programs such as Machine Learning by Stanford University.

I have good knowledge and experience on Python libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, Keras, and PySpark)  and R. In “Projects” section of the website, you will have a chance to access my end-to-end projects using these languages and libraries. I will share the details of the new projects and research findings in “Blog“, where I am looking forward to seeing your comments and contributions as well.

I consider myself as a versatile, collaborative, and hardworking. I like reading books on history and economics, learning new languages, and exploring different parts of world with my lovely wife Tugce.
